The image is simply an enlargement of a worn devotional card, used in the Christian /animist religion of Santeria. These cards are purchased in the form of intentional offerings to secure the psychic power of both the devotee and the saint, (in this case an adolescent Saint Michael). As in Advent Calendars, the overriding premise is that of the concept of expectation.
